"Noise complaints in 2014 are down significantly from 2013," said Col. Constructional 'A-Team'

When the construction needs of Aviano become greater than one shop can handle, teamwork is required to complete the job.

The 31st Civil Engineer Squadron Operations Flight consists of numerous shops; although these shops normally stand alone, during larger projects, all their expertise are needed.

"When we have an opportunity to pull all the shops together it gives us a chance to learn each other's trades, help each other out and to be more efficient during our jobs," said Tech. Sgt. Brandyn Walter, 31st CES structural craftsman.

Team Mildenhall Airman shares story of loss to raise awareness of childhood cancer

Ty Nordstrom was just 4 years old when he caught a large catfish by himself.

"It weighed around 7 pounds! He was very proud of himself - it was a long, hard-fought battle between the two of them," reminisced his dad, Master Sgt. Lyle Nordstrom, 352nd Special Operations Group Inspector General superintendent from Iron River, Mich.

But that wasn't the only battle Ty faced at such a young age. He soon had to deal with something much scarier - cancer.

He hadn't yet reached his fifth birthday when he was diagnosed. Ty died Nov. 13, 2009 - a month before his seventh birthday. He'd been suffering from non-rhabdomyosarcoma.

Air National Guard soars skies over Poland

Airmen from the U.S. and Polish Air Forces started training together at the 33rd Air Base at Powidz Air Base, Poland, Oct. 15, 2014, for the start of Aviation Detachment rotation 15-1.

Roughly 50 Airmen and three C-130 Hercules aircraft from the 182nd Airlift Wing, Illinois Air National Guard, Peoria, Illinois, will participate in the training hosted by Detachment 1, 52nd Operations Group, in Lask Air Base, Poland.

"Our mission here is to support the Aviation Detachment rotation and build upon the interoperability between our two forces," said U.S. Air Force Lt. Col. Douglas Applegren, chief of tactics for rotation 15-1. "We have been looking forward to this rotation ever since we found out about it, and our Airmen are excited to work and train together with the Polish air force."

Ramstein teams with German partners during exercise

Ramstein Airmen in concert with German disaster response authorities participated in a combined major accident response exercise, or MARE, here Oct. 18.

The exercise tested German and U.S. first responders' ability to react to a massive on-base accident, from initial notification to the recovery phase.  The MARE was an opportunity to train and rehearse roles and responsibilities in a crisis between Ramstein Airmen and German partners.

"Our German counterparts from the Kaiserslautern area brought a wealth of knowledge and experience to the scenario," said Col. Lee Smith, 86th Airlift Wing vice commander. "Together, we used our skills to test our interoperability and coordination during a crisis and I am very pleased with the results."
