PACOM's lead communicator visits Korea to discuss troop relocation
During her trip to Korea, U.S. Pacific Command's lead communicator, Rear Admiral Nancy A. Norton, visited USAG Humphreys to assess the progress of the construction of the new Command, Control, Communications, Computers and Intelligence (C4I) facilities and infrastructure for the troop movement into USAG Humphreys. Dominick Nkefor, assigned to Company A, 602nd Aviation Support Battalion and Alex Hernandez, assigned to U.S. Army Confinement Activity--Korea, are the Volunteer Humphreys Heroes for April 2014. They faithfully serve as Volunteer Recreation Aides at the Humphreys Community Activity Center. The valuable assistance they provide includes issuance of games and equipment to authorized patrons, and scheduling the use of video games billiards tables, and table tennis. Dominick and Alex also assist customers with facility and programs information and referral. They also set up the ballroom for functions or events and perform simple in-house maintenance and repair.

15th MDG Airmen take on Army medic course

Four Airmen from the 15th Medical Group recently had the unique opportunity to attend the Army's Expert Field Medical Badge course at Schofield Barracks.

The two-week course, held March 31 through April 11, tested an attendees' medical aptitude through a series of rigorous mental and physical tests. Upon completion of the course, students are awarded the highly sought-after Army Expert Field Medical Badge--and ultimate bragging rights.

The prestigious award has a passing rate of five to 25 percent, making it one of the most difficult badges to earn in the U.S. Army and most definitely the most difficult in the U.S. Army Medical Corps.

90th FS Pilots, equipment tested at Tyndall AFB

Air Force Capt. William Albert could feel the missile bay door opening on his F-22 Raptor as the Air Intercept Missile-120 Advanced Medium-Range Air-to-Air Missile was launched outside, the rocket motor then engaged, giving the missile speed and shooting it out into the sky near Tyndall Air Force Base, Fla., March 19, 2014.

The target was an orange, remotely-piloted, BGM-167A Subscale Aerial Target, designed as an evasive target for fighter jets during a Weapon System Evaluation Program at Tyndall Air Force Base. Twelve jets and more than 200 people, including 25 pilots, went to Tyndall Air Force Base to evaluate everything from procedures to equipment.

Eighth Civil Engineer Squadron Airmen geared up and enclosed the 8th CES compound with barbed wire for a training exercise conducted Apr. 10, 2014 at Kunsan Air Base, Republic of Korea. The 8th Security Forces Squadron defenders trained the Red Devils on communication tactics, apprehending suspects and manning defensive postions. The goal of the day-long training was to allow for more Wolf Pack members to be trained and ready to defend the base should additional forces ever be needed.

PACAF chief breaks national, American powerlifting records

Months of training and years of experience were put to the test recently as judges meticulously observed more than 40 power lifting contenders during 2014 Military National Championships.

One Airman, who has been powerlifting for nearly 30 years, approached the stage, chalked up his hands, and made his second attempt at breaking the national and American powerlifting record.

Within a matter of seconds, the Airman broke the five-year record with a colossal 633-pound deadlift.

18th MUNS helps locals celebrate Shimi

The 18th Munitions Squadron opened their gates to offer more than 400 Okinawan locals the opportunity to visit family tombs for the Okinawan Shimi celebration here April 6.

Shimi is an annual celebration during which extended family members gather to clean up the exterior of their family's tomb and the surrounding area. Afterward, the family will pray for health and protection, and offer food to their deceased relatives before enjoying each other's company at a picnic beside the tomb.
