100th SFS augmentee program back in full force

Personnel from across the base scramble to secure buildings and put up barriers, as a handful of Airmen rush to the 100th Security Forces Squadron Base Defense Operation Center and exchange their traditional duties for one that requires them to wear full battle rattle and carry an M16 assault rifle.

For a few Airmen, this scenario became a reality through the security forces augmentee program. The recently revamped program helps the security forces low manning by allowing Airmen from the 100th Mission Support Group to volunteer or be selected for this special duty.

Lasting impressions of an Air Force honor guardsman

An overwhelming urge to serve and a determination to recognize the sacrifices made by Airmen in the past enabled one Aviano Airman to represent the Air Force on a national level.

Walking tall throughout the base, it's apparent that Master Sgt. Andre Moore stands out from the rest of the Airmen. His uniform is sharp and he carries himself with pride. He has the mark of an Air Force honor guardsman.

Not unlike a tattoo, the Air Force Honor Guard is impressed upon Moore for the rest of his life, but instead of the ink staining the skin, his demeanor is saturated with professionalism.

New programs encourage strength training

The Eifel Powerhaus fitness center recently inaugurated a new fitness campaign aimed at promoting weight training among base Airmen.

The campaign consists of two separate programs which began Oct. 1 and will continue for one year, ending at the end of September 2015.

The first program, known as the Wall of Fitness, features a weight-lifting competition broken down into different classes. For each weight class, competitors must complete three lifts: bench press, deadlift and squat. The participant with the highest total weight after all three lifts will claim the spot for their weight class on the Wall of Fitness. According to U.S. Air Force Master Sgt. Crystal Morris, 52nd Force Support Squadron fitness center director and native of Frederick, Oklahoma, the wall will display the champion's name, photograph and amount lifted until a new challenger comes along and beats the champion's score.
