Oconus.com is the web portal of Oconus-Shopper.com, LLC, a Montana company dedicated to serving U.S. Military (and other expatriates) living overseas.  We search the net to find businesses that support our overseas families by shipping to APO/FPO addresses and providing other important services.  We also provide consulting services to businesses who want to make their websites APO/FPO friendly.  Our mission is to become the top internet resource used by American military families living abroad.

We have two main goals for Oconus.com. We want to save our visitors time and save them money. Our staff performs a daily review of our merchant partner sites and posts special coupon and sale information to our database. It isn't likely that our shoppers have the time (or desire) to look through 50 retail clothing sites to see who is having a sale. With Oconus.com, you don't have to; we do the work for you. We also wanted to provide a better understanding of APO FPO shipping for our customers and merchant partners. Our first of its kind database gives merchants and shoppers real-time data about restrictions by APO FPO zip code.

We also seek out organizations that provide military discounts or other special offers and partner with them to spread the word about their special offers. Oconus.com is committed to bringing back the idea of the "military discount!"

First and foremost, the merchant must be capable of shipping to APO/FPO addresses to be included on our site.  Secondly, we seek companies that can provide items that are difficult to obtain overseas.  Finally, we look for companies with an excellent reputation for customer service.

In order to be listed on our site, merchants must meet several requirements for ease of use, security and customer service.  Many times when a site is suggested we will contact the merchant to clarify their APO/FPO shipping policy.  About 25% of the merchants we contact never return our emails.  These merchants are not listed since we figure that they probably won't return your emails either.

Besides giving you back one of today's most valuable resources - your time, Oconus.com also hires military spouses living overseas to writer articles for our site. We are well aware of how difficult it can be for spouses to find work in a foreign country, and we are committed to having the vast majority of our content provided by military spouses living overseas. Additionally, Oconus.com is the home of several contests that provide cash prizes to overseas military players. We also support military charities when our budget permits it. Our founder was in the Army for 8 years, serving in Germany for the final 3.  This site was the direct result of his dissatisfaction with his family's overseas shopping experience.  We also employee military spouses living overseas as content providers and hope to be an employer of choice for military spouses in the future.  Additionally, two other members of our management team have military backgrounds, and our CFO is a former military spouse. The merchants we feature have been carefully screened and selected against a long list of criteria to ensure that they are reputable and provide quality service.  If you have a problem that you can't seem to resolve with one of our merchants, send us an email and we'll contact the merchant directly for you.  We have worked with several merchants to solve problems for our overseas customers and have also helped several merchants set up APO/FPO shipping programs.  We also encourage you to use our Rate 'em system to provide your feedback on our merchants

Yes - with the exception of our "Gifts to the U.S." section.  We take great care to select only those merchants that ship to APO FPO addresses.  Occasionally merchants will change shipping policies without notifying us and we will have to remove them, though.  You also may "click through" to a merchant who links you to other merchants.  We cannot guarantee that these secondary merchants will ship to your address.  If you find a merchant who has changed their shipping policy and no longer serves APO/FPO addresses, please contact us and we will remove them immediately.  There are also some items which can never be shipped to APO FPO addresses because of size or other restrictions. Please check your zip code on our restrictions page to ensure that the item you are ordering can be shipped to you.

Our site has no affiliation whatsoever with the DOD.   We're a private partnership that strongly supports our American military families living abroad.
